Wilderness Ministry Seasonal Intern Internship NEW

The Wilderness Ministry Seasonal Intern will support the facilitation of wilderness ministry across Ancient Paths and Bethany Wilderness Ministry Trips. This position will work directly with the Pastor and Associate Director of Wilderness ministry in the implementation of development of wilderness ministry. This part-time position will run from January through September 2027.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Provide Leadership:

• Lead in debriefing of volunteer leaders and their trip experiences
• Highlight, recommend, and support implementation of learnings from trip debriefs to improve wilderness ministry
• Participate in leader meetings, summer BBQs, and leading outdoor trips as applicable
• Support cross-location ministry leaders in trip cross-location trip facilitation
• Creative content development for trip facilitation, leader meetings, and stewardship resources
• Support Wilderness Team in Critical Incident Response as needed

Logistics/Operations:

• Trip turn over: Food packing, equipment management, and gear packing for AP trips and BWM backpacking trips
• Gear closet maintenance: Cleaning gear, inventorying gear, and maintaining a well organized gear closet for neighborhood and participant use
• Perform other duties as a member of the Bethany Community Church and Bethany Green Lake staff and/or as the situation arises/assigned by supervisor

Leadership Development 

• Registration cost covered for a wilderness certification up to $550 (Single Pitch Instructor, Master of LNT, Wilderness First Responder, etc.)
• Participation in wilderness trainings, including Outdoor Facilitation and Ancient Paths Facilitation
• 1-on-1 development with Wilderness Ministry Pastoral team
• Discern and participate in leadership opportunities based on individual experience and gifts

Performs other duties as the situation requires or as assigned by the manager.

• Understanding and adherence to Bethany’s foundational beliefs in our outward-facing messaging.
• A loyal team player who is committed to the religious mission, values, and vision of Bethany Community Church.
• Basic knowledge of outdoor gear use and care
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Skilled relational minister with experience in debriefing adult leaders, 1:1 discipleship, with the ability to point out areas of God’s activity and areas of growth
• Well organized with timely attention to both the planning and execution of details for plans and projects.

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS 

Work Schedule: Nine month time frame: January-September 2027. Typical work schedule is 20 hours/week, will include some early mornings and evenings, with occasional availability required on Fridays and Saturdays. Hours may be shifted around in some weeks due to multi-day ministry experiences occurring within the same week.

Physical Demands: Must be able to work in an office environment, often at a computer workstation. Must be able to move between buildings on campus. Must be able to lift small boxes and/or equipment up to 50lbs.

Working Conditions: Due to seasonal activity, job duties may often require additional hours and availability outside normal working hours. May require flexibility to adjust work schedule from time to time to work early or later than regular schedule. The office environment is fast-paced and may be considered stressful, due to seemingly regular interruptions because of numerous urgent and unexpected requests that require multitasking. Compensation: $21.50/hr

Benefits: Sick Leave accrued at the rate of one hour per 40 hours worked.
