Biblical Preaching and Worship Leadership – Preach clear, engaging, expository sermons grounded in the authority of Scripture. Provide overall direction to worship services in collaboration with the worship team. Lead the celebration of the sacraments in accordance with EPC theological standards.
Pastoral Care and Shepherding – Provide loving pastoral care through visitation, counseling, prayer and presence. Shepherd the congregation with a tender and approachable posture. Support families and individuals through the joys and challenges of life.
Leadership and Vision – Serve as Moderator of the Session and work closely with elders to discern and pursue the church’s mission. Provide spiritual leadership, wisdom and guidance to the congregation and ministry teams. Train newly elected officers.
Staff Leadership and Administration – Serve as Head of Staff, fostering a healthy, collaborative and Christ-honoring staff culture. Oversee ministry staff and support them in their callings and responsibilities. Partner with Personnel Ministry Team to establish goals and ensure ongoing ministry effectiveness.
Discipleship and Teaching – Teach the Scriptures in a variety of settings. Encourage spiritual growth and maturity throughout the congregation. Equip members to discover and use their spiritual gifts in the life of the church.
Mission and Community Engagement – Support and strengthen Covenant’s local and global mission partnerships. Lead the church in sharing Christ’s love with the Reno community. Encourage outreach, hospitality and evangelism as expressions of our faith.
Desired Qualifications:
Spiritual and Pastoral Character -A deep personal love for Jesus Christ and His Word. Emotional maturity, humility and attentiveness to the Holy Spirit. A shepherd’s heart, marked by compassion, integrity and grace
Theological Commitments – Alignment with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) Essentials of Our Faith and the Westminster Standards. A strong commitment to Reformed evangelical theology. Ordination (or ordainability) in the EPC.
Education and Experience – Master of Divinity (MDiv) from an accredited seminary. Experience in preaching, pastoral care, leadership and discipleship. Ability to lead staff, Session and volunteers with wisdom and teamwork.
Leadership and Interpersonal Skills – Clear and compelling communicator. Collaborative, relational and joyful in ministry. Able to lead through change with patience and clarity. A desire to see people come to Christ, grow in Christ and serve Christ.
