Candidate Profile & Requirements: Someone between the ages of 15 and 30, who has a desire to receive work experience and to develop a solid skill base in a diverse range of ministry and community contexts. This person must have a solid Christian faith and testimony, adhere to the Evangelical Free Church Statement of Faith. Additionally, applicants must fit the requirements of funding for a Canada Summer Jobs Grant which include: (1) being a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and (2) have a valid Social Insurance number and being otherwise legally entitled to work in Canada and in accordance with BC regulations.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Youth Development Intern is responsible for the planning, implementation & oversight of the youth ministry’s summer programming in conjunction with the present Youth & Young Adults Director. This position is focused on providing friendship building programs & an engaging environment for youth (ages 12-18 yrs) through a variety of activities, events & outreach initiatives. The Coord. will work closely with leadership, volunteers & parents to deliver a dynamic, well-organized program that aligns with our culture statement.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE & NOT BE LIMITED TO:
This area will focus on our active youth community, which currently sees up to 30 youth, between ages 12-18, twice a week. With retreats, partnership events, topic constructed talks, sports, games, group & individual studies, we encompass a wide range of activities for youth. The applicant will be working directly under our Youth & Young Adults Pastor.
• The summer intern will be assisting & providing leadership to weekly youth programming. This includes a Sun. morning & a Tuesday & Friday evening programs & events.
Responsibilities for this part of the position include:
• Developing activities that build community, help every youth feel welcome & included & strengthen friendships.
• Create object lessons that meet the objectives of our program & work well with the lessons we are teaching.
• Providing leadership to one of our volunteer teams, the specifics of which can be chosen by which the intern is most interested in.
• Communication with youth & parents about the program.
• Integrating younger youth (Club 57, Grs 5-7) Considering 3 events in July & 2 in Aug. in coordination with families & availability of volunteers/events. The Coord. would assist in the planning, communication & execution of 3 of these, plan one of them with the help of the Director & be released to facilitate.
• The intern will be responsible for connecting with each of the families that we serve over the course of their tenure. Connection points for each family will be interviews related to the programs, including feedback & follow-up on the past year as well as planning for the next calendar year. Each connection point will also serve as a way to gauge how the family is doing & how we can be better assisting them.
• The intern will coordinate with the Kid’s Coord. on how to make each of our spaces, programs & times more inclusive for kids with special needs. We will be striving to better serve families with children who have special needs, providing better sensory spaces & tools, communicating with these families & individuals in a way that works for them & training our volunteers on interaction & leading young people with special needs.
• The intern will work with the youth Director to prepare a camp for pre-teens that functions as a Leader-In-Training camp. This camp will have a 3-pronged approach:
1) It will provide a space for our pre-teens to have a fun week of learning, specifically engaging in leadership development & personal growth.
2) It will provide our pre-teens with an opportunity to develop leadership skills which they will be able to put into practice the very same week as kids camp.
3) It will be a place where pre-teens can have a fun & exciting week of camp that is specifically geared towards them.
• Some light general office work can also be expected, such as answering emails, phones, taking messages etc.
