Director of Next Gen Ministries Part Time

Objective: Green Timbers Covenant Church (GTCC), a multi-cultural, multi-generational, Christ centred community seeks to cultivate God’s Values in the world by nurturing a community of disciples committed to building relational bridges into their life circles, the community and the global village. The Director of Next Gen Ministries (DNGM) will help the church fulfill this calling among the youth, children and families of the church and the surrounding community.  The DNGM will lead the church’s nurture and outreach ministries to youth, children and families and will also provide support to other ministries as necessary.

Strategic Plan:  The Director of Next Gen Ministries will further our pursuit of the affirmative statements developed by the GTCC community, focusing specifically on these three statements as they apply to children and families.  GTCC will:

• Learn how to communicate effectively and sensitively in our diverse world in a manner that will share the Good News of Jesus Christ
• Provide an environment that nurtures children and youth into strong Christian leaders in our church and community
• Intentionally encourage, empower, and equip people of all ages, ethnicity and gender to become ministers and leaders.

Reporting and Supervision: The DNGM reports directly to the lead pastor of Green Timbers Covenant Church with regular communication with family ministry leaders, and the Staff Relations Committee.

Responsibilities:  The DNGM is expected to perform the following duties:

Program:

• Take a primary leadership role with the youth and children’s ministry of the church utilizing a team approach to ministry, outreach and spiritual formation.
• Develop relationships and encourage others in the church to develop relationships, with the children and youth that will lead our young people to develop as disciples of Jesus Christ.
• Create and lead opportunities for youth and children to gather for formation and community outside of the Sunday morning program, preferably weekly for youth and at least monthly for children.
• Offer a prayerful, connectional, caring presence for the community providing pastoral care as needed

Administrative:  

• Schedule, train and supervise teachers and leaders for Sunday morning ministry for children
• Oversee the implementation of all safety protocols followed in regard to the children & youth ministries
• Ensure that resources and supplies are purchased, available and organized.

Ministry Empowerment:

• Recruit, empower and support ministry volunteers, nurture their leadership, ministry development and spiritual formation and
• Engage children and youth in ministry opportunities within the church, their life circles, our community and the world

Outreach:  Create pathways of outreach and inclusion of new people into the ministries of our church.

Teamwork: Work with the pastoral staff and other leadership to facilitate the mission and vision of GTCC

Terms and Conditions:

• Hours: 20 hours per week starting at a salary of $22-$25 per hour
• Benefits include the employer’s portion of MERCs.
• Criminal record check (abstract) and child abuse registry check.
• First Aid Certificate, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate (Training for certification will be provided).
• Term:  The expectation is that the DNGM will remain with us for a minimum of two years.

Notes:

• We are open to dividing this job description into two ten hour positions, one focused on youth and one on children’s ministry, if this would work better for our preferred candidate(s).
• Intercultural competency and multi-cultural church experience are desired.
• The ability to speak a language other than English would be helpful but not required.
• Familiarity with the Evangelical Covenant Church is a plus.
