Pastoral Role Job Description Saanichton Bible Fellowship – supporting and invested in our community. Vision Statement 1. That the congregation will continue to be Christ-centered; growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer and the knowledge of His Word, increasing in faith and understanding. 2. That the members of the congregation will be equipped and empowered in using their spiritual gifts and expressing their living faith within the body of SBF and within their personal communities. 3. That SBF will become an increasingly relevant part of its local community demonstrating God’s love for all people in the mission of Christ. Role The Pastor will provide forward-thinking spiritual leadership that dovetails their gifting and experience with the contributions of SBF leaders to help us fulfill our vision statement. They are to be a champion of our vision statement; guiding us towards implementing this vision by leading and encouraging us, and listening to God in personal and corporate prayer. The primary responsibility of the Pastor will be the teaching and preaching of the Word of God in order to exhort, encourage, and equip this local church family, helping us to develop apostolic and effective witness to our communities. They will carry approximately 75% of the teaching load. In consultation with the Leadership Team, they will develop teaching plans so that God’s Word is delivered in a systematic and relevant manner whether in traditional Sunday morning gatherings or through other media. Secondary responsibilities: – to disciple and equip current and potential leaders, and ministry groups, through encouragement and resourcing. This will include developing Christian education opportunities. – to work with the Leadership Team to ensure that pastoral care within the Church is maintained. This may include equipping others for this ministry. Relationships within SBF 1. The Pastor will report to and be accountable to the Elders, serving as a co-elder. As an employee of Saanichton Bible Fellowship Society, the Pastor will function within SBF’s constitution, by-laws, policies & procedures, upholding and supporting them. 2. The Pastor will work closely with our Director of Worship and Ministries, Office Manager and key ministry leaders such as those responsible for children/families. 3. The Pastor will liaise with the various ministries and teams within the Church, providing input when requested. They will be able to build teams and thrive on collaboration. Qualifier This is our attempt to capture the role we envision our pastor fulfilling. It is not intended to be final, or carved-in-stone. Our desire is to enable our pastor to develop ministry and programs in accordance with the vision and mission of the church. We expect that this role will be similar to that of an executive director, working in conjunction with the Elders and other SBF staff. We are seeking a pastor who has shown evidence of the capacity to do this particular job in previous ministry settings. You should expect some flexibility given your unique gifting and experience, and especially during Covid-19 times when we continue to anticipate the need of adaptability, creativity and courage all within government guidelines.
