Associate Pastor Full Time

Summary: The role of the Associate Pastor is to support the Site Pastor in participating with the staff and community of Tenth Church in its mission to be a place where people from all backgrounds can discover Christ, be a place of spiritual transformation, and seek justice for all. The Mount Pleasant Associate Pastor offers leadership around spiritual formation, volunteer development, and community connection.

Employment Status: Full-Time (40 hours per week).

Working Relationships: Reports to Site Pastor – Mount Pleasant (MP) and works alongside site team members as part of the Mount Pleasant Team.

Ways You Will Contribute:

Alongside the Site Pastor-MP, the Associate Pastor will be: (40%)

• Serving and being another face-to-the-place and providing a pastoral presence for the MP site community on Sundays and throughout the week
• Creating effective systems to connect people to the MP congregation and to one another
• Working with the MP staff and volunteer teams to create a safe environment for people to explore faith in Christ:
  • Developing an atmosphere that enhances authentic worship, promotes personal spiritual formation, and encourages emotional health, healing, and growth
  • Creating opportunities to link this community with the broader Tenth family in terms of resources and opportunities to serve
• Providing networks of pastoral care for the congregation (through small group ministry, and/or pastoral care team)
• Supporting the Site Pastor in other MP initiatives

Spiritual Formation: (30%)

• Providing leadership to the life groups at Mount Pleasant:
  • Discipling MP life group leaders
  • Supporting congregants joining new or existing life groups
  • Leading signature events that help launch new life groups such as Grouplink or Life Group Launch events
• Teaching spiritual formation courses that encourage holistic spiritual growth

Volunteers: (20%)

• Ensuring the effective execution and health of volunteer teams
• Working with the Site Pastor and MP team to recruit and care for volunteers on Sunday teams
  • Supporting, developing, and discipling lay leaders in the community
  • Taking an interest in their spiritual journey and growth

As required: (10%)

• Providing up a welcoming front presence by “hosting” on Sundays
• Preaching/teaching as requested
• Joyfully serving where required

What You Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree required, M.Div. preferred
• Experience in exercising effective leadership, developing emerging leaders, spiritual formation, outreach, and discipleship
• Passion and ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment
• The ability to personally offer pastoral care and to mobilize others for pastoral care ministry
• Ability to motivate people to become involved in service and leadership
• Connects wells and has relationships with people who are not Christians
• Personable and outgoing with a passion for connecting with people
