The Community Ministries Director provides holistic leadership to a range of community-based programs addressing poverty realized by families in Vancouver, BC.
Serves actively as a member of Boundless Vancouver congregation, mission board, management team and community council for Boundless Vancouver.
Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example.
Gives oversight to community ministries programs, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives.
Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with neighbours, staff and volunteers, endeavouring to welcome them into the Body of Christ, as appropriate (including linking neighbours to the church family and church programs where possible).
Provides intake services, client assessment, emergency assistance and short-term spiritual counselling for clients.
Provides direction and support to all community ministries staff so that they may develop spiritually and to ensure that they work together to achieve the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
Develops organizational strategies and recommendations for staff and volunteer development, handles recruitment, orientation, performance management and terminations.
Assists the Ministry Unit Director with ongoing strategic planning to ensure programming reflects community needs as these may evolve in our changing socioeconomic climate
Provides input into the preparation of an operating budget for the community ministries programs and monitors/manages financial performance accordingly
Development and implementation of policies and procedures for community ministries programs
Works with the Ministry Unit Director to ensure that programs meet contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements.
Networks within The Salvation Army, government and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of the community and program.
May engage and implement a local Emergency Response Plan, assisting with provincial/federal emergencies as required.
May coordinate marketing strategies to ensure continued donations and volunteer recruitment through website and community partnerships.
Coordinate/organize annual donation and fundraising efforts and/or special or seasonal programs (Christmas Kettle Campaign, Food Drives, Backpack Program, Donation Drives, Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Community Dinners, etc.).
May provide visibility for The Salvation Army within the community through service club participation, media relations, general public relations, etc..
Performs other duties as assigned.
The successful job applicant will have completed up to four (4) years of University.
One year of prior related experience including, experience in a variety of social service programs with some supervisory experience, and experience in oral and written communication.
