UGM is seeking several auxiliary, on-call Ministry Support Workers for our Vancouver (Hastings) facility to cover a variety of shifts. For a copy of the full job description, visit ugm.ca.
Reporting to a Shift Supervisor – Outreach Worker,, Ministry Support Workers are responsible for assisting the Outreach Team in ministering to marginalized men and women living in the neighbourhood of the Hastings Facility. ‘Ministering’ entails forming relationships, loving, praying, declaring the good news of Jesus Christ and making disciples as well as assisting the guests with material needs. The job may include making referrals for housing, clothing, shelter and recovery and performing a wide variety of other duties as dictated by the needs of the individuals we serve. The work will be based out of the Hastings Facility. From time to time, you may be assigned to other UGM locations or the Emergency Men’s Shelter. You will often deal with clients in crisis situations, brought about by diverse problems. You will support a 24-hour/7-day-a-week operation, so availability for overnight and/or weekend shifts is an asset.
This is a ministry position and a personal knowledge and experience of the saving work of Jesus Christ is a prerequisite. Strong interpersonal skills and related work or volunteer experience is a requirement. Competency in using the Microsoft Office suite is essential. Some related post-secondary education is preferred. In order to be successful in this position, you must be able to set healthy boundaries with demanding individuals and deal with people in crisis in an appropriate manner. The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent tasks, is an ongoing expectation of this position.

This position may have unsupervised access to vulnerable adults or children. Therefore, the successful candidate must provide a current criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.
If the successful candidate has a valid BC Driver’s License, they will be asked to submit a current driver’s abstract in order to drive UGM vehicles.
