Reporting to the Senior Development Officer, Corporate & Foundations (SDOCF) the development Officer, Foundations (DOF), is responsible for the writing and preparation of grant proposals to foundations and government sources, managing relationships with foundations, prospecting for new foundation sources and conducting face-to-face meetings and tours as needed. The DOF will also assist in the gathering of materials and statistics, preparation of stewardship reports and other interim communication to Foundations, and tracking of Foundation deadlines.
The DOF will implement direction and strategy for the foundations portfolio with the guidance of the SDOCF. The DOF will be responsible for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of foundation donors.
At times you will come into contact with clients in crisis situations, brought about by diverse problems. There will be Outreach Workers and other Programs staff nearby to assist as required.

To be successful in this role, you must have a university degree and/or professional certification in communications or related field, with 3 – 5 years of experience in editing, creative writing, technical writing, donor relations or related field as well as experience in corporate and/or administrative environments. Included in your background will be proven experience in database management (Raisers Edge preferred) and working familiarity with AFP guidelines & Donor Bill of Rights. A sound knowledge of CRA and CCCC guidelines, which relate to financial and gift-in-kind donations and donor recognition, would assist your successful performance in this role.
This position may have unsupervised access to vulnerable adults or children. Therefore, the successful candidate must provide a current criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.
