TITLE: Youth & Young Adults Minister
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: The Associate Pastor
TYPE OF POSITION: Part-Time, 1 Year Contract from the start date.
HOURS PER WEEK: 20 hours a week, covering essential hours for Youth & Young Adult MInistry responsibilities.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Youth Minister: To build young disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry (in the areas of community, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach) while serving as a spiritual leader and role model. This approach must be cohesive with all ministries of Westside church carrying out the following principles:
• Oversee weekly gatherings.
• Create an environment where youth can discover (evangelism) Jesus and experience (discipleship) Jesus.
• Build bridges into the city. (IE: High Schools, Clubs etc)
• Be a resource to parents.
• Challenge youth to respond to God’s call to serve in their church, communities and the world.
• Encourage and foster a transparent relationship and dialogue with family members.
• Help students identify their spiritual gifts and give them opportunities to walk in their giftings.
Young Adults:
• Oversee monthly gatherings.
• Foster an environment and give opportunities for meaningful community.
• Develop and maintain a core team to help with the ministry.
Extended Responsibilities:
• General Disposition: Be an advocate for youth/young adults and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of youth in the local church and community.
• General Ownership: Ownership of planning, scheduling, budgeting, recruiting, developing and implementing a balanced ministry, utilizing team resources and clear communication to achieve an integrated ministry with unified vision, branding, and messaging across the staff.
• Personal Evaluation: Build a vision statement and goals for the ministry, and evaluate progress against these goals with the associate minister every three months and annually.
• Lead & Train Others: Mentor people in developing their leadership skills, and provide key emerging leaders opportunities to serve and lead initiatives.
• Build Your Team: Recruit and train volunteers who work with you in all aspects of the ministry and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to youth ratios. • Grow your team in leadership and help them identify and foster their gifts.
• Resourcing/Networking: Be aware of resources for developing youth/YA ministry programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities. Tracking: Keep records of youth participation, utilize “Church Community Builder” for managing their personal information of leaders and youth attendees, and put control mechanisms in place to manage the spending according to your budget.
• Communication: Communicate in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, bulletin board, etc.). Ensure communication with church staff and leadership, parents, and the congregation as a whole.
• Make yourself available to youth and young adults in a variety of ways, as needed to outreach, shepherd and love effectively.
Personal Qualifications:
• Is a follower of Jesus, having recognized and repented of personal sin and is baptized with an understanding of the gospel. The individual’s life clearly demonstrates a high level of spiritual maturity.
• Gifted in leadership and teaching.
• Is growing in Christ-likeness demonstrating a commitment to spirit (heart, will) transformation through the disciplines (prayer, study, giving, fasting, solitude, confession, unity, worship, etc.).
• Should have a clear sense of God’s calling to ministry at Westside with much passion for the calling.
• Agrees with Westside’s mission, core values, and statement of faith, understanding that all ministries do not stand alone, but fit in under the umbrella of Westside’s vision and goals.
• Is a humble, organized and enthusiastic worker, with a passion to serve with excellence.
• Lives in the city of Vancouver and is committed to reaching the people of Vancouver as God provides opportunities.
